LAKE CITY, Mich. (July 13) — Suddenly, Billy Moyer Jr. doesn’t want to see the UMP DIRTcar Summernationals end.

After completing a sweep of the Hell Tour’s swing through Michigan with a flag-to-flag victory in Thursday night’s 40-lap feature at Merritt Speedway, Moyer was riding high with the grueling month-long series nearing its conclusion.

“Man,” a beaming Moyer said following his second consecutive $5,000 triumph, “I feel like we’re just getting rolling.”

Moyer, 29, of Batesville, Ark., duplicated his score in Tuesday night’s Summernationals stop at Hartford (Mich.) Speedway, racing off the pole position again to lead the entire distance. He also faced a stiff late-race challenge for the second consecutive start — this time from Brandon Thirlby of Traverse City, Mich., who caught Moyer with five laps remaining but fell 0.374 of a second short of denying Moyer back-to-back Hell Tour checkered flags.

HARTFORD, Mich. (July 11) — The old big Hartford Speedway suited Billy Moyer Jr. very well. So does the new, small(er) version of the Wolverine State oval.

Just over one year after winning an American Ethanol Tour event on Hartford’s former half-mile monster oval, Moyer returned Tuesday night to test himself on the shortened, 3/8-mile layout and enjoyed more success, scoring a flag-to-flag victory off the pole position in the 40-lap UMP DIRTcar Summernationals feature.

HIGHLAND, Ill. (July 8) — Bobby Pierce said he likes bullrings. Point taken.

FARMER CITY, Ill. — Taking advantage of his prime starting spot on a track with limited passing, Mike Marlar of Winfield, Tenn., led flag-to-flag at Farmer City Speedway to collect his fourth career UMP DIRTcar Summernationals victory and first in a decade. With the Farmer City Speedway surface becoming uncharacteristically one-laned early in the main event Marlar showed patience in lapped traffic while hitting his marks as low as he could get around the 1/4-mile oval.
