Local Driver Chad Zobrist Takes Upset Win at Highland

HIGHLAND, IL — Chad Zobrist has run enough laps at Highland Speedway to know the place like the back of his hand. A 10-time track champion at his home oval with 20 years of experience in a Late Model, Zobrist, 40, is a master navigator at the quarter-mile bullring. But Zobrist hasn’t always had Shannon Babb nipping at his heels. Nor does he typically have a five-figure payday waiting at the checkered flag.

Billy Moyer Takes 99th Career Summer Nationals Win at Farmer City

FARMER CITY, IL — The hot streak that Shannon Babb used to kick off this year’s DIRTcar Summer Nationals has cooled about as quickly as the Illnois weather. After winning three of the first four races and five of the tour’s first nine, the Moweaqua, IL, driver has been on an equally paltry streak over the course of the last five races.

Friday that icy patch continued at Farmer City Raceway, where it was Hall of Famer Billy Moyer who took advantage of Babb’s latest tough break to win his series-leading 99th career Summer Nationals main event. Moyer, of Batesville, AR, inherited the lead when Babb slowed with a flat right rear tire during a lap 34 caution. Moyer then led the final six laps, pulling away from Brian Shirley of Chatham, IL, for a $10,000 triumph.

MACON, IL — Gordy Gundaker spent much of the first 85 laps of Thursday’s Herald & Review 100 trying to find a way around race leader Brian Shirley. And just when it seemed the Chatham, IL, driver was headed to his second straight DIRTcar Summer Nationals victory, the leader ran into trouble.

BROWNSTOWN, IL — JULY 4, 2018 — One by one the challenges came. But with a fast car and a little help from Lady Luck, Brian Shirley systematically repelled them. Shirley, of Chatham, IL, won his second DIRTcar Summer Nationals feature of the season, but it wasn’t without a few tense moments.

Tanner English Takes Career First at Clarksville Speedway

CLARKSVILLE, TN — Tanner English knows how to get around Clarksville Speedway. His eight victories at the quarter-mile oval last season serve as proof enough. Tuesday, however, the Benton, KY, driver put a bigger feather in his cap.
